چکیده

OBJECTIVES The most common uropathogenic Gram negative bacteria are Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae. The purpose of this study was to determine the three most frequent bacterial agents causing Urinary Tract Infections (UTI) in patients who referred to Central Laboratory of Dr. Shariati Hospital, during 2 years (January 2006- December 2007). MATERIALS AND METHODS The registered data were checked and collected by the questionnaires as a retrospective epidemiological survey. Then, the Chi Square tests were performed by SPSS software. OUTCOMES The results of the present survey revealed that, the first two bacterial agents in different seasons were similar through the surveillance while the third one was variable. The first two frequent bacteria were respectively, Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae. CONCLUSION The gram negative bacteria of Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae were the most common uropathogenic bacteria causing UTI. According to the statistical calculations, there was significant association between UTI caused by Escherichia coli and female gender (p<0.05).

Investigation of Biofilm ability by Microtiter Plate Method in uropathogenic Escherichia coli isolated from patients with urinary tract infection with urinary stones.

Abstract: Background and Aim: Urinary tract infections are one of the most commonly reported nosocomial infections caused by colonization of E. coli in the mucosal epithelium and in the formation of microbial biofilms, which damage the host tissue. The aim of this study was to determine the amount of biofilm formation of uropathogenic E. coli based on urinary tract stones of people with urin...

Antibiotic Resistance Patterns in Enteric and Uropathogenic Strains of Escherichia Coli in Children

Abstract Background and Objective: Escherichia coli is the most common cause of urinary tract infections in children and the leading cause of intra-abdominal infections (peritonitis and abscess) followed intestinal injuries. Urinary tract infection, including cystitis and pyelonephritis, is a common childhood infection. E. coli causes more than 90 percent of the community acquired and 50% of ho...

Evaluation of Antibiotic Resistance and Biofilm Formation Ability Uropathogenic E. coli (UPEC) Isolated From Pregnant Women in Karaj

Background and Objective: Uropathogenic Escherichia coli (UPEC) are the most common cause of urinary tract infections. The binding of these bacteria to epithelial cells and the formation of biofilms cause these bacteria to be further colonized and difficult to remove in the urinary tract. This study aimed to determine the antibiotic resistance and to evaluate the biofilm formation power in Esch...
